Family History Friday: Starting Early

Start early helping your kids to write their personal history by keeping a journal of their favorites. Nicole over at Reaves Party of Four, she asks her children the same 20 question every year on their birthday starting at age three, and keeps them all together in a cute scrapbook. You can visit her blog and read more by clicking here!

I wish I had done something like what Nicole does with her kids, with mine. Now their all grown up. I’ll just have to do it with my grandbaby, Natasha!

Start early helping your kids write their history and you’ll be glad.

Happy Family History Friday! Love, Joy

Favorite TV/Movie Quotes! Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables

Marilla: Have you said your prayers?

Anne: I never say prayers.

Marilla: Haven’t you been taught to say your prayers?

Anne: Mrs. Hammond told me God made my hair red on purpose, I’ve never cared for him since.

Marilla: Well, while you’re under my roof you will say your prayers.

What a cute story. I love Anne (with an “E”)!!

Arachnophobia?

I don’t think so. But I promise this spider had intelligence.

So, I was watching a movie in my bedroom one night, years ago. It was getting late. My darlin was working graveyard. Most of the time my darlin working graveyard wasn’t that big of a deal. Sometimes though, I really missed having him at home with me. So on this particular night, the night of the huge spider, he had left for work. I was sitting near the foot of our bed, when I saw a shadow coming out from underneath the entertainment center. It was moving. It was huge.

Now at this point in the story, I have to tell you I really don’t have arachnophobia, I am not afraid of them, unless they are coming out from under the entertainment center and heading toward my bed. I can’t go to sleep with a huge spider coming toward my bed. So I tried to get it with a shoe. Did I mention it was huge. It would see me coming, and go back under the entertainment center. This dude was smart! This happened several times. I would wait for it to come out from under the entertainment center, which took a while, then I would try to go get it. Each time, it would turn and run back under. It was getting really late, and I was exhausted. I really needed to go to bed. But there was no way I was going to bed with a huge spider headed toward my bed. I can just see it, I am asleep and the spider climbs in my mouth or my ear or, I can’t even think about it.

So I got desperate. I called my darlin at work and ask him if he would do me a favor. He said, “Sure, what is it?” I said, “Can you come home for a minute and help me kill this huge spider?” He said, “You’re kidding, right?” I said, “NO! I’m not kidding!” He only worked down the hill from our home so it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. So he did, he came home to help me kill a huge spider. This process did take a few minutes. I mentioned earlier that this huge spider had intelligence. My darlin tried a few times to get it, but it just kept going back under the entertainment center.

Finally my darlin said, “I’ll flush it out and you get it when it comes out the other side.” At this point, I was totally OK with this.

And it worked. That huge monster of a spider came running toward me and I screamed as I smashed it with a shoe! I am surprise our kids slept though my scream. It was ok that I had to scream, it was ok that my darlin had to come home from work during his break, I finally got to go to bed and that’s what needed to happen for me to get there.

My darlin, my hero!

Note to self: Call exterminator tomorrow.

Mans best friends!

This is my big brother Brad. These are his dogs, Grizz, Chloe, Paris, and Nicole.Grizz is the one licking Brad. They are all so cute. When we get together at Brad & Cindy’s house, everyone wants to hold them, and love them. They seem to put up with us quite well. Brad had a birthday yesterday. I am so glad he’s my big brother. He is a hard worker. He is someone you can count on. He doesn’t really like it when others try to do things for him, but we still try. We like to say that he is crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. He is such a good guy! Happy Birthday Bradley James! I love you!

Totally “Fort Worth” It!

Hermana Kelsey 11:2 -email-

Dear family……..

Feliz Ano Nuevo!!!!!

Today is a very sad day in the life of Hermana Kelsey….because she is now getting transferred from A. 🙁 🙁 🙁

We got our transfer calls this morning, and I am going to H., which is a really great area from what I’ve heard. But I love A. I don’t want to leave. 🙁 I heard that I was leaving this morning, and I just cried. I love this place, and the people here. But it will be okay I guess. The Lord knows best. My new companion will be Sister W. She was serving in A. right before I came here, and we basically just switched areas when I got transferred up here, because she went down to my last area. She’s pretty cool. I think it will be good.

1-How many members are there in your ward/branch?

1. We probably have a couple hundred, but we also have a lot of less active/inactive families.

2-What is the church building like?

2. The church building is like all the other church buildings that I have been in.

3-Is your companions family LDS?

3. Yes, Sister A.’s family is. She has an older brother that is less active, but he is getting involved with the church again.

4-What do you usually do on P-day?

4. On p-day we usually clean our room, wash the car, go the Walmart and do our shopping, go to the church to email, play some sports, and write some letters (if we have time). Sometimes we do other things, but that is usually about it.

5-Do you have to deal with roaches or other small bugs?

5. I haven’t had to deal with cockroaches since I was in my last area. We live in a really nice house, so we don’t ever see them at our house, and we only sometimes see them at investigators’ or members’ houses.

6-How are your clothes holding up?

6. My clothes are doing okay. I’ve had to hand sew a couple things, but for the most part they are good. I’m just getting really sick of all the clothes I have. 🙁 I was used to having a lot of clothes to wear before the mission, and now I only have a few, so it’s weird.

7-What is the area you are serving in like? Flat, rolling hills?

7. It’s kind of city, like home, but with more businesses, and also there are areas where it is like suburbia and neighborhoods. It’s really flat, like most of Texas.

8-What is the best thing about 2012?

8. The best things about 2012 is that I get to spend a good part of it serving the Lord. 🙂 Not that I am counting or anything, but as of today I have 254 awesome days left on the mission. 🙂 Then I get to see you!!! 🙂

So anyway, this week was really fast. We have been so busy this transfer. We have had so many people to visit, it is like unbelievable. On Monday, we played soccer which was really fun. I get a little crazy in soccer sometimes, so it’s a good thing we don’t play it too often.

Tuesday: Elder R. gave a really cool training about his top 10 lessons he has learned from his mission. It was really cool. It’s so weird because I have now served with him for 4 1/2 months, and he is going home now. It’s always weird when people go back to the real world.

Wednesday: We had a really cool lesson with C. (the 15 year old that we have had a lot of problems with her family). She really is making steps again, which is awesome. I really am going to miss that girl. 🙁 We also have been dealing with a lot of drama with this recent convert family, because the dad is acting crazy and drinking and stuff. So we went to visit her, and gave her some hugs and stuff.

Friday: We had a breakthrough with one of our investigators, J., so we are thinking some really great things that are going to be happening. Also, I had a dream about Natasha. I was sad because she was getting big and she didn’t want me to give her kisses anymore. 🙁

But that was basically my week.

Hey Dad:

Sorry you didn’t have snow. We didn’t either. And it has been like 50’s and 60’s for the last week or so. So it doesn’t even feel like winter, or the holidays. We stayed up until midnight on New Years Eve (don’t worry, the white handbook only says we have to be in bed by 10:30, not asleep), and then Sister A. starting naming off all the things that were the first things of the new year. “This is the first clap of the new year…this is the first hugging of Pikachu of the new year….this is the first dance of the new year…” It was so funny. I laughed really hard. That’s cool though that you just got to chill for new years.

Emmysaurus:

You should definitely work on those grades little Chickadee! What school are you thinking about going to? You should go to a good school, but remember you can only get in if you are going to be an asset for their school. So if you can get in for sports, or grades or something. But that is really cool. Just remember, also, to keep the Lord involved in your decisions, because he won’t lead you astray. He’ll show you where you need to go, and what you need to do. Who was the kid in your grade that died? And how did he die? That is really sad. It’s always hard when someone dies young. I think that is basically all. Love ya.

I love all of you a lot!! Be good.

Love, Kelsey XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

Sunday Best!

Set some goals and do great things in the year ahead.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

“First, think about your life and set your priorities. Find some quiet time regularly to think deeply about where you are going and what you will need to do to get there. Jesus, our exemplar, often ‘withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed’ ( Luke 5:16 ). We need to do the same thing occasionally to rejuvenate ourselves spiritually as the Savior did. Write down the tasks you would like to accomplish each day. Keep foremost in mind the sacred covenants you have made with the Lord as you write down your daily schedules.

“Second, set short-term goals that you can reach. Set goals that are well balanced not too many nor too few, and not too high nor too low. Write down your attainable goals and work on them according to their importance. Pray for divine guidance in your goal setting”          -M. Russell Ballard  Ensign, May 1987, 14

“I feel to invite women everywhere to rise to the great potential within you. I do not ask that you reach beyond your capacity. I hope you will not nag yourselves with thoughts of failure. I hope you will not try to set goals far beyond your capacity to achieve. I hope you will simply do what you can do in the best way you know. If you do so, you will witness miracles come to pass.” -Gordon B. Hinckley

The Fridge

We had a super fun family party just before Christmas. It was with my darlins side of the family. Our nieces little boy, Baylor, came up to me at the end of the party and said, “Somethin’s wrong with your fridge, when I tried to get ice -a chocolate chip came out.”

You need to know that the ice part of the fridge is broken and hasn’t worked for some years. The fridge is quite old, too. It still works great, but we just don’t have ice and water in the door anymore.

The funniest thing about what Baylor said is that, in the shelf on the door above the ice chute is usually where we keep a bag of chocolate chips.

And on occasion,

it has been known to happen,

that someone reaches in the freezer and get a hand full of chocolate chips. Usually in a desperate attempt to relieve a chocolate craving. Apparently, a chocolate chip made it’s way into the ice chute, and came out when Baylor tried to get ice. Funny!

Family History Friday: Collectables #5 Grandma Norma

This gorgeous hope chest was my Grandma Norma’s.

It is so beautiful.

It reminds me of her every time I see it. When my grandma and grandpa were alive, they worked hard. They didn’t have much, but they had some things that were very special and made to last. My mom inherited this hope chest from grandma, and mom gave it to me.

I love it so much.
